Russetts Developments Ltd (RDL) have been fabricating liners (pond liners, lake liners and tank liners) as used for numerous projects for the past 35 years. Projects have included the lining for a humble garden pond through to more demanding projects such as the lining of the tunnels for London cross rail. Some of our projects can be viewed on our website including the London Golf Course re-lining of one of their lakes.

Water features included in the landscape of a golf course act as a challenge to the golfer (the perfect obstacle!) while alsoproviding both practical uses and overall aesthetic appeal. In this article we demonstrate the application of our services in the steps taken to select the best lake liner for the project and the process taken to line the lake, secure the liner in place and prevent liner damage and subsequent water lose.

Golf course design and architecture generally (if not always!) includes water features which serve multiple purposes. Lakes, reservoirs, streams or wetlands are incorporated into the landscaped for aesthetic purposes, environmental enhancement, water storage and as obstacles to make a course more challenging. Soil dug out to build a water feature is used to landscape an embankment, greens or to build bunkers. In this article we look at the importance of such an asset to a golf corse and how the use of lake liners reduce water lose while also working to maintain healthy water quality.

As a Landscape designer are there projects you have been commissioned to do that require a water feature installation for which help is needed by way of expert advice and skills. The team at Russetts Developments Ltd have worked in the Aquatic Industry for the past forty years and have extensive knowledge in numerous water containment projects from lake liner installation to tank liner refurbishment and pond liner installation to a range of complex designs. Other non-landscape examples of applications we have undertaken include slurry lagoon liners, pillow tanks, above and below ground concrete tanks liners and tunnels lining.

Russetts Developments Ltd (RDL) supply flexible rubber liners to a range of industries looking for water containment solutions including that of reservoirs and water storage tanks installed as a water source for the irrigation systems used on golf courses. RDL, therefore found it fitting to sponsor a local junior golf tournament and here we share a few images from the first day on tour on 9 April 2015.

Have you ever marvelled at the greens of a well maintained golf club and wandered how they they keep them looking so lush no matter what the weather? In short it is all about the right mix and concentration of nutrients plus water fed into the ground. The flawless image, however does come with a price tag. Water is becoming more and more expensive leaving golf courses with no other alternative than to invest in water storage tanks or reservoirs to harvest either grey water or rainwater.

Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) rubber liners are extensively used for a number of different applications. The flat sheet liner can be fabricated for lining garden ponds, irrigation and slurry lagoons, lakes and reservoirs. EPDM liners are also used for bespoke projects such as the fabrication of box-welded liners for ornamental vertically-sided ponds.

We are one of the countries largest liquid storage liner suppliers. Our quality rubber liners are used for applications ranging from golf course lakes, reservoirs, ponds to the lining and refurbishment of water storage tanks. Recently we were contacted to supply a client with a l ake liner for his project creation. 'Four Corners' at the Hampton Court Flower Show. Peter was delighted with the materials supplied >>

An 18 hole golf course requires an average of 2000 gallons per minute of water. Climate change has had a negative impact on golf courses which rely on daily irrigation. Therefore, there is added pressure for them to be well managed to maintain the greens in good playing conditions while also reducing water usage. One possible solution is the strategic positioning of water storage lakes lined with a lake liner to guarantee its ability to contain water.

Golf courses have long been challenged to reduce their water consumption in order to keep their greens in immaculate condition. Ensuring that there are sufficient storage facilities for harvesting water is a simple way to store water for irrigation. Building lakes lined with a rubber lake liner material is a great resource to golf clubs as it serves the purpose of aesthetics, a challenging hazard, drainage and for irrigation.

Building your own private lake may seem like an impossible task. However the same basic principles apply that you would use to build a garden pond; just on a much larger scale. If you have never built a water feature before though it does pay to get some professional advice. Any water feature that is poorly designed will leak and cause problems and may be an eyesore rather than adding aesthetic value to your property.

EPDM or Epalyn is a flexible rubber membrane with many features that contribute to its high performance in demanding applications such as for the water containment of lakes and reservoirs providing a high quality barrier to water loss prevention through ground leakage. Some soil types in the UK leak more than others therefore in the lake construction process it is important to determine the amount of clay present and take preventative steps by installing a high quality lake liner.

The Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) has commented on the need for a drought and flooding strategy to be put in place including the construction of new reservoirs. Without a strategy the ICE said that the UK will continue to swing from flooding to drought. They went on to suggest measures such as water containment via new reservoir construction, sustainable urban drainage systems and rainwater harvesting, which will all help manage water better.
Currently water used in irrigation and agriculture is sourced in almost equal proportions from ground and surface water supplies. Ground water is pumped out from wells, boreholes and springs. Surface water is supplied via natural ponds, artificial dams, reservoirs and lakes. Synthetic rubber membranes serve an important function in water containment of reservoirs, ponds and lakes to prevent the lose of water.

Despite the high rainfall we have had this year there are threats of rising water bills and water becoming scarcer in the future or periods of drought all of which are due to climate changes. We therefore need to consider water conservation seriously and be well prepared for such possibilities. In addition the Environmental Agency is keen that steps be put in place to reduce the need for clean water or mains water supplies. An industry that has shown steps to conserving water is Horticulture. Lake liners used in reservoir construction and water storage tanks have enabled the successful collection and storage of rainwater.

Fresh water wildlife habitats are being threatened by pollution intense farming and urban development across much of the UK. As a result there is a drive to increase the number of ponds and lakes available to wildlife plus an improvement in the maintenance of existing water sources. Lake liners help with the maintenance of the water required for the healthy habitation of wildlife.

Lake liners are used for water containment across acres of ground that is otherwise too porous to hold water. Lake liners are typically used in water feature construction on golf courses. These lakes are built to provide aesthetic benefits and as obstacles to make the greens more challenging for golfers.
