How to Prevent Water Storage Tank Corrosion?
Monday, June 11, 2012
Above and below the ground-level water-storage tanks are becoming an important feature of many communities for the effective distribution of water. However, despite the huge benefit of the storage tanks, they can become a liability if not maintained. Steel tanks that are not properly lined may develop leaks as a result of the onset of corrosion.
A tank liner installed in the water storage tank means that there is no contact of the water with the galvanised steel storage tank therefore it serves a vital role in the preventing corrosion. As an additional means of preventing corrosion, the tank liner is overlapped over the surface sides of the tank preventing moisture or water getting in between the liner and the steel structure of the tank. Russetts Developments launched a unique system to secure liners in place. The 'Easifit' liner can be fitted to existing and new tanks of any size.
Easifit liner system for corrugated water storage tanks features a reinforced rubber strip at the top of the liner wall, with a double row of holes to correspond with the bolt pattern in the rim of the tank. The top of the tank is then fitted with a protection strip of a half inch capping before the liner is installed and secured with bolts.
Today, tank liners are readily available to order according to specified tank size and dimensions, and are easy to install.
Rubber tank liners, such as Butyl and EPDM offer many advantages:
virtually maintenance free following installation
can be made to suit any style or size of tank for domestic, industrial or commercial use
as long as the tank is structurally sound, a tank liner is a cost effective, durable alternative to traditional tank repair methods.
Russetts have extensive experience in providing liners for the following types of tanks:
Aluminum / Galvanized cylindrical bolted panel sprinkler and potable water storage tanks.
Elevated rectangular sectional GRP/pressed steel tanks.
Shaped concrete above and below ground basement tanks.
WRC approved drinking water tanks.
