The role of a tank liner is to protect a storage tank as well as to prevent leakages. Two characteristics that are looked at when choosing the type of material is life-long performance with minimal maintenance. Tank liners made from flexible rubber membranes such as EPDM and Butyl have proven to be highly successful in offering those characteristics in long-term water containment.
The technical specifications of EPDM flexible synthetic rubber tank liner membranes means it is ideal for lining fire protection water tanks and potable water storage tanks.
Advantages of using EPDM synthetic rubber membrane for tank liners
- The closely packed molecular structure of EPDM tank liners means it resists water or liquids passing through it thereby offering a completely waterproof seal.
- The cross linked molecular structure provides good ageing and weather resistance when exposed to atmospheric conditions, sunlight, UV radiation and the ozone.
- Strength and elasticity remains unchanged over many years without the EPDM tank liner showing any signs of cracking, shrinking or hardening.
- Offers a high level of flexibility so it readily moulds around surface irregularities and offers excellent resistance to tearing and puncturing.
EPDM or Butyl rubber liners are installed using steel eyelet system which attached firmly to the bolt pitch of the galvanised steel storage tank. A Geotextile membrane is installed along with the liner to offer added protection to the rubber liner.
