Water tank relining service
Russetts Developments is a UK based company who offer water tank relining services to extend the lifespan of corroded or leaking tanks. This is achieved by installing a protective lining to prevent further deterioration.
We provide both relining and replacement of water tanks, using EPDM liners and other durable materials. We are known for our fast response times and high-quality workmanship.
Tank liner fabrication
Rubber tank liners are typically fabricated using flexible materials like butyl rubber or EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer), both of which are known for their durability, chemical resistance, and waterproofing capabilities. The process of fabricating these liners involves several steps:
- The type of rubber is chosen based on the tank's application—whether it's for potable water, chemicals, or wastewater storage. EPDM is favoured for its flexibility and resistance to temperature extremes, while butyl rubber is known for its impermeability and longevity. Although more commonly used for steel or plastic tanks, EPDM can also be used in concrete tanks due to its flexibility and long-lasting waterproofing properties. It is particularly effective in preventing leaks and handling temperature variations
- Rubber sheets are produced in large rolls of various thicknesses, typically around 0.75mm to 1mm thick. The thickness depends on the intended use and size of the tank. The material can be either single-layered or multi-layered, with reinforcements if needed.
- For custom projects, the rubber sheets are cut to match the dimensions of the tank. This may involve box-welding or shaping the liner to fit the tank’s specific shape, including corners and seams. In some cases, the liner is preformed into a box-welded structure, particularly for rectangular or square tanks.
- Once the liner material is prepared, it can be either pre-welded or welded on-site using specialized techniques. For example, hot air welding or vulcanization is employed to join the seams, ensuring a strong, watertight seal. This method creates a uniform, bonded surface that prevents leaks.
- After fabrication, the liner is installed inside the tank. Protective layers, such as geotextile matting, are often placed between the tank walls and the rubber liner to prevent abrasion. The liner is then secured, sometimes with mechanical fittings, adhesives, or fasteners depending on the tank's design.
- Post-installation, liners are tested for leaks and defects. Some companies offer guarantees, typically ranging from 10 to 20 years, depending on the liner material and the type of liquid the tank stores.
This method of fabricating and installing rubber liners helps prolong the lifespan of storage tanks, protecting them from corrosion and chemical degradation.
Russetts Developments Ltd, established in 1982 and based in Milton Keynes, specializes in providing solutions for liquid storage and containment, particularly through the use of tank liners. We serve both industrial and horticultural sectors, offering liners for water storage tanks used in applications like irrigation, sprinkler systems, and drinking water. Their liners are made from durable materials such as butyl, EPDM rubber, PVC, and polypropylene, suitable for a wide variety of projects, from garden ponds to large lakes and reservoirs.
Russetts Developments is particularly known for fabricating and supplying liners for water storage tanks, including concrete, steel, and other custom-built tanks. These tank liners are commonly used for potable water, wastewater, and even more aggressive liquids like chemicals and fuel. They also provide a fitting service, including options like the "Easyfit" system, which allows for efficient liner installation without removing tank lids.
