Trustworthy EPDM roofing membranes
Friday, May 10, 2013
There are various choices of roofing types available. Cost, climate and type of roof design are factors which generally determine the type of roofing system to use. EPDM is a durable synthetic rubber roofing membrane
used to waterproof flat to nearly flat roof buildings.
The two main ingredients of EPDM are ethylene and propylene, which are derived from oil and natural gas.
EPDM is used by roofing contractors for new construction and replacement roofing projects. This type of roofing system has been used on flat roof extensions, flat roof garages, dormers and bay window roofing. Sheets can be prefabricated according to dimensions required so there is no limitation of roof size to be waterproofed.
A key feature of EPDM roofing membrane is that it has over 300% flexibility so it will accommodate building movement without it being affected in anyway or any compromise in the desired outcome of the membrane.
With over forty years of real world exposure, EPDM roofing membrane was proven to retain its tensile strength, tear and weathering resistance. It also retained its original form with no sign of a brittle effect remaining stable and long lasting. It has anti-fungal, anti-moss and anti-algae properties thereby retaining its original aesthetic appeal.
EPDM membrane supplied by Russetts Developments is mechanically attached to the roof. The membrane is laid along the rooftop with 50 mm overlap. It is then secured by fasteners through both membrane edges. Seams are heat-spliced with a 150 mm wide Thermobond Spice Strip and the Thermobond Strip Splicing Machine.
Russetts Developments Ltd is an approved distributor of the complete Sealeco EPDM roofing membrane system. We can offer not only all the products required for one of the most exceptional roofing systems, but also complete training and technical support.
