For roofing contractors, installing the best system to ensure a roof is waterproof is critical. EPDM waterproofing membrane has become a very popular choice for roofing flat to low pitch roofs.
EPDM rubber is a class of synthetic rubber made primarily from EPDM polymer, ( Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer). There are many ways to formulate EPDM rubber, but they all share a chemical structure that gives them extraordinary resistance to heat, cold, sunlight and air pollution. These are all characteristics, which are ideal for a roofing membrane.
EPDM remains flexible throughout the coldest winters, it won’t crack or dry out in the hottest summers, and it will withstand permanently ponded water. It is ideal for roofs with poor drainage or where the waterproofing is to be covered by gravel, soil, decks, or pavers. In addition, since it is UV resistant, it can be used for fully exposed applications provided the heat gain from a black surface is not an issue.
The first EPDM flat roofing system was installed in the 1960's and are still protecting roofs to the same high level of satisfaction, therefore we know that this roofing system lasts more than 50 years.
Other advantages of choosing EPDM roofing membranes:
-
Resilient based on its resistance to UV rays.
-
It 'breathes' allowing vapours to escape so no blistering.
-
Repels moisture therefore ideal for waterproofing flat roofs
-
Does not support the growth of moss and doesn't show-up dirt so retains a pleasing aesthetic appeal for any roofing type.
EPDM sheet is regarded as one of the most superior roofing membranes due to its elasticity and extreme weather resistance. Russetts (RDL) supplies EPDM waterproofing membranes and is an approved distributor for the Sealeco roofing system.
-
The Sealeco roof membrane system is a lighweight EPDM membrane that can be mechanically attached or fixed using a polyurethane adhesive.
-
Easy to work with and install on site using a heat splicing technique and Thermobond heat splice accessories.
-
For larger products, made to measure sheets can be prefabricated and laid directly onto the roof.
-
Russetts provide details including corners, boots, collars, drains, flashing sheets and adhesives.
