Box-welded
pond liners are welded into a 3-D shape. This type of pond liner offers many advantages versus a flat sheet liner or a preformed fibreglass pond. A box welded pond liner is also referred to as a tailored-to-fit, bespoke, made-to-measure or tailor-made pond liner. All terms are recognised by professional landscapers and by pond liner manufacturers. For formal pond designs, a box-welded pond liner offers a professional finish.
Benefits of a box welded pond liner
Suited to formal pond designs, a box-welded pond liner provides the best fit with no unsightly seams, creases or folds. When a flat sheet pond liner is installed to any shape pond, it is difficult to eliminate the folds and creases. These have the potential to harbour pond debris. Over time this can start to affect the quality of pond water which in turn will affect the health of fish and other pond inhabitants.
A box welded pond liner provides a relaxed fit with a professional finish. It is quick and easy to install with minimal effort required. Just unfold and drop into the above-the ground or in-ground pond build into which the pond liner is installed. A pond liner designed to fit 'like a glove'.
How to order a box welded pond liner
A box-welded pond liner is hot bond vulcanised or heat welded in our factory to the exact dimensions provided. These bespoke 3-D box welded pond liners require a solid base and sides so they can be dropped in to fit to the formal shape of the pond. Unlike a flat sheet pond liner, box-welded pond liners can't be stretched to fit the hole so taking accurate dimensions is important. Added to the pond length, width and depth measurements an additional amount needs to be added for the lip or flange. The lip goes over the edge of the pond to secure the liner in place.
It is important to note the pond needs to be filled with water to allow the liner to 'settle' in place before adding the coping slabs or choice of edging material to the lip.
Before placing your order, make a sketch of your formal pond with exact dimensions shown on the drawing - length, width and depth dimensions plus a flange or overlay of 15cm added to your calculation. This will help with getting a quote and then agreeing to go ahead with your
bespoke pond liner order.
A question frequently asked about box-welded pond liners is how long will they last before needing to be replaced. We use the highest quality material namely 1.0mm Epalyn (EPDM ) or 1.0mm Butyl pond liner. Both types of which have a recorded use of over forty years without any compromise to their integrity.
Epalyn (EPDM) and Butyl rubber pond liners are:
- UV resistant,
- puncture resistant
- fish and plant safe
- readily hot bonded into a box-welded pond liner - easier to ship versus a rigid preformed fibreglass or plastic pond
Depending on the size of pond will depend on the number of seams joining sheets of pond liner together. These seams are hot bonded (retaining the water tightness of the pond liner and structural integrity) and vulcanised to eliminate unsightly folds.
Simple square, circular or rectangular to more complex designs are catered for. Russetts Developments have years of experience supplying and installing box-welded pond liners.
